From Marilyn: I asked Austin questions, and he answered them.
Where are you? Describe the place for us. Is it a big city, or like Rexburg or Tetonia?
Well right now I am in an area called, you ready, Luguna, Acoma and To'hajiilee. Ya it's pretty crazy. It is split up in those areas. It is 3 different tribes I guess and the area is huge. It has a ton of open space and a whole lot of nothing. It reminds me of the St. Anthony desert but no trees. I'm staying in a tiny town - actually it is not even a town - it's a place called Budville. It's like Tetonia but 10 times smaller and no people.
From Austin to Carson (a little more description):
Wow, New Mexico, holy cow, it's so hot and it's November. There are a lot of super nice cars like the Fast and Furious ones! It's not too bad out here. You'll be happy to hear that I did not get called to the city, nope, I'm out in the middle of nowhere living in a trailer. But it's better than the city that is for sure. O my gosh! There are so many dogs out here it would scare you to death! Most of them are just strays that end up on somebody's porch. They are everywhere!
Who is your companion? Where is he from? Tell us about him.
My companion is Elder Cornelison ya kinda a mouthful. He is from Washington state. We are getting along pretty well. He has been out for about 20 months. So he is teaching me a ton. He likes sports, not a hunting guy at all and kinda a computer guy. He teaches me a ton and he is super obedient. And he is a great missionary.
What is your favorite part of the day? Do you have a routine? What do you mostly study?
My favorite part of the day is probably the shower it wakes me up in the morning and feels good.
We mostly study the Book of Mormon and at night.
What are the basic rules of the mission? Can you email or do you have to write letters?
The basic rules are I don't really know. Just don't be stupid. I can email only on p day but to whoever. But I might be writing some letters too.
Have you had any teaching experiences? How did that go?
Yes I have had a ton of teaching. I have been going to homes, but the crazy thing is we can't go knocking on doors or they get mad so we just call and set up a time. I have liked teaching. we have felt the spirit every time we teach someone. One guy even cried because he felt it so much.
Have you had any dinner appointments? What do you usually eat?
No dinner appointments yet, we are kinda just eating a lot of sandwiches. We always try to leave a message with someone even if it is short. I am eating eggs, noodles, cereal, spaghetti, pancakes ... pretty normal right now. The store is easy. It's super small so I know where everything is.
How was church? What is your ward like?
It was stake conference so I haven't been to my ward yet. The building is really small.
How was flying there last Monday? What was your day like?
Oh my gosh. flying. I hate it so much. Everyone was taking it so easy buy not me. I about tore the seat in front of me right off. Oh man. It was windy too so I thought for sure we were going to crash. The day was easy I think. I don't remember all of it. But we spent the night in an apartment and then got with our new companions and headed out to our areas. We got there and dropped off our stuff and went to go teach a lesson. Ya, first day. I just sat there and was quiet, but I did learn a lot. Then we came back and met some of the members, went to a old lady's home, came back and had dinner, and got unpacked. Ya, that was about it.
Well, it sounds like you all had a pretty good week. The weather down here is hot for me and it just went off daylight savings time so it gets dark like at 6 now. I am down here with a ton of Indians and no Mexicans. All the tribal stuff is pretty nuts. They are really big into culture, but I really like it. We are driving a truck and get to wear jeans so that helps. Oh, and I have already picked up on some Navaho and the native language carris. So I think that is super cool. When I have a little more time, I'll fill you in on all of the details. This week I am trying to get all caught up.
Ok. I love you all and hope that you have a great week.
Love, Elder Reiley
PS - Will you send me my Wranglers and boots? Not the big ones.  Also the pliers and those 2 knives, and some Cal Ranch work gloves - the yellow ones. Thanks.
