Dear Family,
Oh man it was so cool to talk to all of you on Monday. It
was the best thing, I loved seeing you all again. And thank you SO MUCH for the
Christmas and birthday presents they mean a whole lot to me and I love them all
so much. Man, it was such a geat Christmas. I had a really good time at the
stake center too. We stayed there till like 8:30 just playing games and sports,
with a lot of different zones and a lot of missionaries. This one was a good
one to start off with.
Questions from us:
Do you want us to send hunting/fishing pictures or
does that make you homesick?
If you could hold off on the pictures that would be good.
What kind of beliefs/traditions to the people on the
reservation have? How are they different than ours?
The beliefs are they just worship their spirits so their
ancestors. But they do know about God and what we are there to teach them so it
goes both ways. From our facetime conversation: They have a
feast day where they cook a lot of food and then open the windows so the
spirits can come in and eat the food. They believe in the sun god and the moon
god and stuff like that.
If we want to send you a letter, what address do we
send it to?
Send letters to the Cubero one, packages to the mission
home. It takes longer for packages to get out to me, but I will get it.
What is the coolest thing about your mission so far...
something that you don't to ever forget?
One thing that I don't want to forget on my mission is 1.) I
feel the spirit a lot more out here and I know that the Holy Ghost is with me
all the time and that feeling is the best to have. 2.) I just want to remember
being a missionary, like walking down the road, teaching lessons on wood piles,
doing service for people, just the fact of being a missionary.
Other missionaries tell me that it goes by so fast, but
heck, I don't think so. I will not look at the future or the past. I just look
right at right now that's it. And that has helped me a ton.
I love you all so much. Thanks again for geing the best
family. Have a great week.
Love, Elder Reiley
When we facetimed with Austin, he was so positive and
happy. He didn't seem homesick at all. He was excited to share some of the
words/phrases he has learned in Kernes language which I guess is a little
different than Navaho. He said Merry Christmas, How are you today? Mother,
Father, Grandpa, Grandma, cow, horse, nineteen and a few others. He likes
driving a pick up, even though it is bare bones, but he's glad it isn't a
prius, so that's good. He works with all Indians; there aren't any white people
out there at all. He and his companion drive into Albuuerque on Sunday nights
and stay overnight at the zone leaders' apartment and then do their shopping,
laundry etc. on Monday's. They are about 60 miles west of Albuquerque. He gave
us the rundown on a couple of movies that were filmed exactly where he is...
John Wayne "The Stagecoach" or Carriage or something? (I actually
can't remember) and Young Guns 2 (I think). He really loves the people there
and he loves to chop wood and whatever else they need him to do.
There are a few pictures of Austin that I found on the
mission facebook thing(?) They are on the blog: elderaustinreiley.blogspot.com
