(Our questions to Austin are bold and underlined).
How was your Thanksgiving? Where did you go for dinner? What did you eat? How did you feel on Thanksgiving? What else did you do that day?
My Thanksgiving was crazy, it was a good crazy though. We went to 5 families for Thanksgiving and 5 dinners as well. They fatten you up. but it's ok, I've been running it all off. We ate just the regular stuff that you have at Thanksgiving. Nothing too special. I felt kinda homesick but not too bad. We went to the zls (zone leaders) that night and had zone conference the next morning.
Where is Elder Cornelison from? What are at least 3 positive attributes you've noticed about him? Can you figure out why your mission president put you with him as your trainer?
He is from Washington, the Tri cities area. 1. He is 100% obedient no matter what. 2. He always leaves a message with someone even if they don't want to hear it. 3. He has 3 months left and he wants to sprint to the finish line, not take it casual.
Connections: We know a senior couple that went on a mission there. I heard that they lived in a trailer in the church parking lot, could that be the same place that you live? Do you have heat and water and a place to cook? Also, I talked to Mike and he remembers President Barber. What is he the president of?
Yes, I think that is the same trailer. He is the president of the Tohajiilee branch.
Do you need a coat?
No I don't need a coat right now. It is on record the second hottest winter they have ever seen. It was like 75 today.
What have you learned this past week, that you might not have known before? This can be about the culture or about the Book of Mormon or anything else you are studying, or just anything that you learned.
I learned that most everyone knows us, people are not stupid down here, (well) but some like us and some don't. I have learned not to open my mouth about anything that will offend people or then it gets rough. I never thought I would need the Book of Mormon this much.
Did you laugh at all this past week? Any funny experiences?
I don't know if I laughed at all, but there was one... we have 1000 dogs that follow us around and we have named them all. Oh man, one quick one was we were at a house for Thanksgiving (non member's) and we went to give grace so everyone holds hands and heck, I blanked out and this old guy gave me his hand and I just shook it and that was it. Then I realized that I was supposed to hold it so I grabbed it hoping that no one would see. Ya, kinda awkward.
Did you get your package?
Yes I got my package and thank you so much mom I love it all. Oh man I love it. In the next one do you think that you could send me some summer working gloves? The ones I got have the foam (warm?) stuff on the inside so they are hot. I am using them but it it is a little too warm for them in the future, is that ok?
What scripture do you want on your missionary plaque? Before you left, you said D&C 84:88 (at least that is what I have on a sticky note)... or is it 88:84?
Yes that scripture is great. I memorized it just the other night.
What goals have you set for yourself for your mission?
The goals that I have right now are to not think about home and not to ever think about the future, when it gets further down the road I'll get some new ones.
I'm getting ready to send your birthday and Christmas packages. Any requests?
Well, some music, also, there is a knife in my black dresser it is grey and kinda big, it is a spring loaded one, Carson should know what it is, could you send me that one? A Kings calendar for 2018 with bull elk or mule deer one would be great. I think that's it for now. I'll be looking for some stuff to send home if I can't fit everything in my bags.
That's good that everyone had a good Thanksgiving. It's weird that it is so warm there too. Thank you for telling me about how much money I have and I don't carry very much cash in my wallet.
Thank you so much mom and dad. I love you so much. Talk to ya next week.
Love, Elder Reiley
PS Will you send me exactly what the Skype account is? And directions on how to do it? Thanks.
