Dear Family,
How do you feel about starting your mission on the reservation? How long has Elder Spencer been there? Who is the lady that lived in Idaho Falls?
Yes, this is an awesome place to be serving and getting my mission started. I love it. Elder Spencer has been on the mission for at least 10 months I think. The lady that was born in Idaho Falls is named Carren but she was just born there and then moved back here so she was not in IF for long.
Family history story: something about being left out and learning to be kind and include everyone.
Thanks for the story about grandma and the purple buffalo. I really like that story but that makes me feel bad about how kids are mean but I'm glad that they let her back in, cause I think I would be ticked. Kinda like the dang dodge ball deal in middle school. I know how that felt for sure.
Best thing about your week?
Ok, I have something this week that totally made my mission. We are working with a guy, Anthony Peters. I have mentioned him before. Well, his cattle business needed branding this week, and he called us looking for help. We met at his house and drove down to the pasture. There were not a whole lot of people there but we ended up having about 25 people there. All of them were pretty old, there were a few there that were 20 or 30, but they had about 50 cows and 60 calves. So they had 2 guys on horses and they would rope one, drag it in and then I would go down the rope to the head. The calves would be jumping, kicking, yelling just going nuts, but then I would grab them and flank them or flip them, and then hold them down, hog tie them and then do the stuff. I bet I flipped about 40-50 calves and I can't tell you how sore I am. I have never been more sore, oh man, it felt so dang good though and the people loved it cause some of the people would just go easy into it, but we dove into it and got all dirty and they loved it. I got beat up, but boy, it felt good to do that.
Hardest thing about your week?
Hardest thing was just no lessons. We hauled hay one day, fixed fence another day, and then cows all day the next day so that was hard too.
Do the positive things/feelings outweigh the hard stuff?
Oh ya, the positive dominates the hard stuff. That's why you have to do your best to always stay positive.
Any info on the Mother's Day chat?
For Mother's Day we are planing on doing it around 6:00 PM, the same people that did it for Christmas. The Neilsons. If something changes I'll let you know. But does that work?
Do you have any other missionary experiences from this week that you want to share?
Well, while we were branding, people would ask us about our missions so it was actually really good cause we got to share a little about what we do and it sparked a ton of questions. So you can really be a missionary anywhere you go.
Thanks so much for the email. Sounds like you had a great week. Hope you have a good one. Love you a ton.
Elder Reiley
Ps I got Grandpa and Grandma Reiley's stuff. Thank you so much for that.
PPS Also did dad ever get his cup from Ryan? I gave him some stuff, did you get that yet? It's for dad's birthday. Also real quick... how're the cows and horses doing, especially Ginger?
